Hi, I found this 1996 D penny in my "pocket change". I was woundering if the "falt spot" by the date was damaged? I have never seen one like this because it almost looks like a clip but not fully. Maybe some one took sandpaper or pliers to it? Any input will be appericated. Thanks for your help!

Glad you also showed the reverse image too
Not sure about the edge, but it also appears to be a small MAD.

To me it looks like someone squashed it in that area. The edge tells me this as well as the rims flattened down a bit. Probably a coin placed between two pieces of wood and hit hard with a large hammer on the edge areas. No way this could of happened at the mint. PSD
