Hello Everyone, Congratulations on having such an excellent forum. This is my first post. I recently remembered a couple of quarters I found years ago, and am interested in how common their types of errors are. I also found a dime that might or might not be a mint error, and I would appreciate an expert opinion. These are all from pocket change. Thanks

Hi and Welcome,

The quarter(s) is/are a genuine off-center struck error(s). They retail for between 10.00 and 20.00 depending upon who is selling them.

I lightened the picture of the dime in one of my photo-programs and it is definitely the victim of some kind of post-mint damage.

The likelihood is that the coin was face down and the reverse was hit by a hammer or another heavy object. In any case, it is not an error but a post-mint damage.

Thanks,
Bill

Thanks, I found one of the quarters when it jammed a coin sorter, being just a bit too big to go through. That must have been in '87, so it hadn't been around too long. I imagine that is how most of these coins get taken out of circulation.
