TobyJ Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 1273 Posts	Posted 07/07/2016 12:53 pm Hello all, as I know there a lot of fakes of these about I thought I would ask to see what people's opinions are on this coin I own. To me, everything points to it being real except the weight is a bit off, 24.2 grams! It is a Hu-Peh Province, 7 Mace and 2 Candareens Silver Dragon. The text seems the right size, the right distance from the outer circumference, and I have had a Chinese friend semi-translate the reverse and it reads Hu-Bei, with Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. I have tested it with a magnet, it is not magnetic at all. It measures exactly 39mm in diameter with vernier calipers and 2.6mm in width. It came to me from an auction with an original price tag of £200 which looked like an old tag, and I got it for way less. So just interested in people's thoughts, as I can't find any coins with the same reverse? Many thanks in advance, Toby. Report this Post to the Staff

The details are mushy, the fields are somewhat porous, but most i,portantly, several of the english letters on the obv are not complete. It screams "fake" to me, but I will be interested to hear what others have to say. Albert Pillar of the Community United States 1915 Posts	Posted 07/18/2016 10:22 am This coin looks like one maybe having mismatched sides. It's not unusual for the fake-makers in China to make underweight coins like this. The reverse does look like a typical fake. The Manchu legend on the obverse looks oddly made as well as a few of the other characters in the below legend. I'm thinking these two sides don't belong together. Normally a dragon coin is of standard design having English language legend around the dragon reverse and then the same in the Chinese language on the obverse around Kuang Hsu Yuan Pao. Yours is something like Great Qing Silver Coin. Maybe some others can come up with something more informative than my thinking. Report this Post to the Staff
