This is a photo of part of an 1882-H cent I have in my collection.  Doesn't look to bad so far. But when you see the whole obverse and reverse, you can see that a long time ago, someone took an old penny and scraped it on both sides with something, probable just for fun. If only they'd known!   I bet everyone has something like this in their collection. |

It is indeed interesting what strange things can happen to coins over the years. I have seen the same things with some key / semi key US coins. One dealer told me at a show that a wife of one of his customers purposely destroyed some of her husbands coins in his collection for flirting with a friend of hers. Tore some of them up pretty badly. Very sad.... |

Most people that don't collect coins look at coins as spending nothing else I talk to different people they can't believe that people spend money to buy coins.
I can see this happening to coins like you say someone wasting the day away

Don, looks almost like the same person worked on of both of our coins.
MG, yours at least looks more like honest wear.(plus cleaning)
Papeldog, I can hardly believe I spent money to buy this one.(although it wasn't much)

Phil they must have had a long arm or shifted around the world as this one was found in NZ (it was put on our auction site with a buy now of $10 --it lasted 1min )  Cheers Don
