recently my mother found this in her garden and I'm trying to identify it. It's in pretty rough shape and I can make out the letters "USA" with maybe a "D3R" next to the USA. It looks like all US coins seem to spell out United State of America. The only thing I can determine from the back is it may be copper due to the corrosion. It is 7/8 inch in diameter just a hair larger than a normal nickel and about as thin as a dime. Any ideas from anyone as to what this is?

i would recommend a long soak in olive oil. maybe in a week or 2 you could make out more once some of the crud is removed.. do some research on olive oil soaks..
After a bit of Googling, I found some pins and medals bearing the words "modern health crusader", which are apparently 20th century Red Cross fundraiser items. Do a Google image search on that phrase and you should find many similar items.
