Rising to the top is a Mexico 1714MO 8 Escudos Royal Coinage graded NGC MS 65 and pedigreed to the 1715 Fleet (lot 21), with an estimate of $200,000 to $400,000. This rare coin was struck at the Mexico City Mint during Philip V's reign and later sank with the 1715 Spanish Fleet off the coast of Florida. Unlike regular cob coinage, the Royal dies produced exceptionally sharp details, smooth fields, and a perfectly round planchet, with distinctive decorative elements unique to the 1714 Royal dies.
Remarkably well preserved with no visible wear or significant shipwreck damage, this example is exceeded in grade by only two known examples. Of only about 10 known examples, it is only the third to have appeared publicly, according to the auction house.
