Also the copper colored edge is what to look for as a missing clad. This is normally in the center of the coin. With your being all one color, that tells me there is a coating on the outside of the whole coin from being found outdoors. That is the color most coin turn when found with a metal detector:

Then look at the edge copper color on a normal pre 1965 quarter. Note it is more red in color. If it were missing a clading, the coin would be that color on affected coins. Also the missing cladding will prevent a full strike because of the missing clad.cladding:
