I am entering another period of collection! It seems every 10 years or so I get hot for coins again. Have been collecting since I was a kiddo and in my 40's now.

I collect US coins only. My modest collection spans lots of the common types but I have never fully completed a set. I only have a few pieces worth more than $100. Probably half my stuff was bought somewhere and the other half I have collected "natively" through change, buying rolls at the bank or raiding my family members old piggy-banks, lol.

Not sure what my goals are this time around, but I am thinking about obtaining some low-mintage pieces that people tend to ignore for whatever reason. An example would be Mercury dime 1930-S. Why does the price not reflect the rarity?

I am hoping this forum will help me reacquaint myself to the tools of the trade.

Ha! This made me chuckle. I'm the same way. I said much of the same in my intro a couple weeks back.

Rest in Peace

Welcome! I echo that sentiment too...for me it seems to be every winter (as of three years ago).

I'm slowly chipping away at an early set of Mercury dimes (pre-1934). Here's a page from a book I have, explains the apparent idiosyncrasy of the 1930-S. It is the 7th most rare issue in the series. Check out the comments for the answer.
