I'm New To Coin Collecting And Would Love Some Information About This Doubling

zanelinzi New Member United States 10 Posts	Posted 01/15/2019 03:19 am Hi! I recently began collecting coins and I've come across a couple of coins that I have some questions on. I am wondering what causes the issue on the coin pictured here, the reverse of a penny has a doubling on over half of the backside but the shadow is silver? Hmmm I can't get a photo from my iPhone to load, even when it's resized under 300kb. Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 01/15/2019 10:10 am Split plating is often found on the outside edges of devices near the rim area: But also inside by like your coin. It is often thought of caused by extreme strike pressure, but I'm also think Machine Doubling could also cause this with the die sliding across the fresh new devices are the strike. But either way, it is not a keeper. In time the gray area you are seeing will eventually breakdown since the zinc is now exposed. Report this Post to the Staff
