Hi, I found this dime today with my pennies. The photograph don't show the color well but it's almost the same color as a penny. I've included a photo next to a regular 1966 dime. Other than the color, some letters are sharp and clear and some aren't even there. Is this environmental?

... to the Community! We look forward to your active participation!

I'm guessing environmental damage of some type on your "red" dime. Could be water, heat or some type of chemical reaction.

Others will chime in hopefully.

Thank you.
I wanted to add that it's still has some shine to it so I doubt it was buried or is missing class.

Instead of creating a new post, you can edit your posts (within 24 hours, in general) by clicking on the paper/pencil icon above the post you wish to edit.

The dime looks to have environmental damage and partial or missing letters may have been caused by a partial Grease Fill in conjunction with circulation wear. I think it is worth face value.

@Spruett001
What do you mean creating a new post? Besides my introduction that I read I should do first before posting, this is my first post. Please explain. Thanks.

Nevermind, I understand now.

@Angel195, first welcome to CCF. Second, I'm glad that you are so quickly getting the hang of posting here. Third, I agree that your dime has surface staining, most likely from environmental or chemical exposure. It is a spender.
