Hi all,

This coin looks rather suspicious don't you all agree? Is this one a fake?

It does look a bit suspicious, but it could very well just be extremely porous. The weight is a bit less than normal for a hemidrachm.

Can you take and post an edge shot so that we can look for a casting seam pls?

I have seen coins come out like this from very harsh soils. It was likely heavily encrusted and then treated with electrolysis, then potentially pickled to boost the silver appearance. A lot of fabric is lost from coins in this condition so coming in somewhat underweight can be expected.

Or...it was cast. Small coins like this would likely have a noticable sprue mark somewhere.

This looks more like environmental damage from being buried in moist soil. Otherwise I believe it's genuine.

This seems likely to me too.

Is this a good-enough picture from the side?
