Found this coin and was wondering if anyone else has seen this error on a 1964 D Jefferson nickel. It is a DDR on the base of Monticello. Wondering if this is a new error? Thoughts appreciated.

machine doubling, common to see it at the base of Monticello during that era

That would be my guess, but the lighting could be deceptive here.

A doubled die enlarges the devices. Machine Doubling reduced the normal size of the devices.
here is what a very nice doubled die looks like.

Note how the devices are enlarged and you can see a spread on them.
