Small Date 82 Zinc Dramatic RPM

So what would that mean/imply? In person it looks like an s exactly if you ask me but its hard to get a great pic in my circumstances...but going off what you suggested..can you explain further please? Sorry ..and thanks

with both the above statements...zinc corrosion is causing the copper plating to lift

@hb, sometimes (but not always) when you have a plating blister like this, you can flatten it some by pressing with a wooden toothpick. To help you see what OMMs and RPMs look like, varietyvista is a great site (the link is the page on 1980-RPMs since there are no known OMMs for that date):

During the striking process the thin plating over the zinc gets get punctured and allows air to activate the zinc with oxygen. This is the start of the breakdown process of the coin. This will continue as shown above. Not a good thing to happen to these coins. This can happen on different areas of the coin. Sometimes Machine Doubling creates a breach on the outside edges of devices:



Even a puncture with a pin can start this. It is is not a RPM. Why? This is caused during the strike. A RPM is create on a die and then placed on the coins struck with that die. This can also happen on RPMs as well.

So if a coin has this issue, it is best not to keep/buy them as it will continue to breakdown with time.
