Just scored this 1865 2 cent piece. Fancy 5 with some sort of die break variety and retained the metal. Any one know what that error is called I saw one with the metal removed from the exact same location.

I don't recall the term for when the die piece sinks or shifts, but there appears to be an offset at the rim & denticles where that chunk of the die no longer aligns. Can you get an edge view? I poked around Heritage etc a few days ago but didn't find a similar crack.

Edit: Huh, it's almost the same as RCD-2c-1864-08R here http://cuds-on-coins.com/two-cent-r...s-1864-1873/ except that one is 1864. Crazy how the die broke in almost exactly the same way. The denticles appear to be offset too.

Looks to me like a die break along with a partial rim break.
