Here are pics of the 1939 Mercury S Dime. It sure as heck appears to have 2 S's for a mint mark.

I can't find a thing on this error? Does anyone know anything about this 1939 S?

It does look like one and I can't find anything for 1939-S either. It seems odd that there aren't any websites or clubs dedicated to the Mercury dime, at least that I know of.

Nothing on VV or Wexler. It does have that RPM look, though. New discovery?

Yeah, this really threw me. You know that double take...

Hard to believe no one came upon this in all these years? Could it be that rare? It was pretty obvius?

Still wondering if anyone has found anything about this? I 've been collecting on and off since the age of 10 in 1976.

It would be pretty cool to have my name next something, an error. Look family, I finally amounted to something. One big error &

I would get a free login at Heritage and search their archives for another one. There are 400+ 1939-S dimes on there and most of their images should be good enough to pick out an RPM. With a mintage of 10.54 million, there were probably around 50 reverse dies used, so statistically you'd expect 8 coins out of 400 from this particular die. Great Collections and Stack's Bowers have archived images too.

By the way, it's considered a variety, not an error. If you find another example to confirm it, contact Dr. Wiles at Variety Vista and see what he thinks. It is fun to discover something.
