Quote: ...There is no gold bar I don't think it's going to hurt to receive it if I don't have to pay a cent. I already told the sender that if there are ANY out-of-pocket expenses on my part, the deal's off. I'll keep you guys posted and if I'm lucky enough to receive something genuine, I promise to shoot you all a JPEG. I do know that one thing I will do is to cut the bar in half longitudinally. The XRF Machine and others that I have looked at only go down a few millimeters and would not detect tungsten if it happened to be embedded deep inside. I'm 80% sure it's a scam but 20% of me is hoping it's not since I've known the person for over a year and feel comfortable dealing with her online with other transactions having zero problems.

How do I get on her mailing list for free US$66,000+ gold bars?
ps. Don't purchase any testing equipment until you have something to test.

Why buy something from a foreign country taking all the risks when it is easy to go to your local coin shop and be able to buy it and walk out with it?

Quote: Why buy something from a foreign country taking all the risks He said it's a gift, so theoretically no risk. But getting a free 60k gold bar from someone you've known online for only a year? What could go wrong? Hope it works out for you, but I agree I wouldn't commit to any testing costs until you get it, including paying for an intermediary to do the testing.

It all sounds very suspicious. Someone will send you a free gold bar, and after receiving it you are obliged to pay the full price of the bar? Hmm... good plan, reliable as a Swiss watch.

Quote: . Did you ever get that free gold bar? No, It turned out to be a lot of hot air but thankfully I didn't lose any money purchasing expensive testing equipment. From the beginning, I told my friend there that I wasn't paying a penny upfront to receive this thing; this also included any COD charges. I think that was part of the reason it was not sent.

It wasn't sent because there was no gold bar.

I can't believe that you actually thought some one would send you a $60,000 gift, especially someone that you dealt with online?

I never assume anyone is as intelligent or uninformed as myself on any issue. It's all about obtaining adequate education and diligently doing one's homework before the event in question etc.

Glad there was no harm, no foul.
Was there any request for any funds in order to get the bar? Or did they pretty much no longer communicate after you told them upfront you would not entertain any costs or fees?

Interesting variation on an age-old scam.
