1711 Silver Rider Ducaton - Coin Community Forum

totty Valued Member Australia 77 Posts	Posted 06/06/2024 12:43 am This piece has recently come up in a local auction house. A mounted 1711 silver rider ducaton. I would like to hear your thoughts on authenticity. The auction house said the piece X-ray tested as ~96% silver. Unfortunately these are the only images I have. Thanks for any help! captainmandrake1 Pillar of the Community United States 878 Posts	Posted 06/06/2024 03:47 am Looks like a shipwreck coin mounted in a bezel. The ship was the De Liefde. I've seen shipwreck coins mounted in this manner and experiencing the kind of damage this coin has. It's probably safe to buy. Report this Post to the Staff

Jecz: yes, after one of the type as I find the shipwreck history quite interesting. The bezel damage/ wear would be unfortunate however, but if I can win it for a good price I'd certainly take it! thq Pillar of the Community United States 3347 Posts	Posted 06/08/2024 07:20 am I have a 1711 Utrecht rijder that's more corroded than this one. They appear to have started out as uncirculated coins before the shipwreck. Aside from the corrosion they have excellent detail. The bezel on the one you're looking at may be detachable.
