Doesn't it look as if Lincoln is losing his toupee? I found this unusual on this 2001 cent. Anybody else ever noticed this?

I agree with over polished or even maybe a little grease in that area.

Yes the "scratches" are from heavy die polishing and the "doubling" on Lincoln's head looks like MD.

EDIT: Looks like "MD" isn't highlighted but maybe " Machine Doubling" is?
