Recently on ebay, a copy of Richard Snow's book on Flying Eagles and Indian cents crossed my radar. The price seemed reasonable, so I ordered the book. My guess is that there have been additions to the Flying Eagle Snow numbers since 1992. I didn't find a good reference online that broke them down by Snow number. Can anybody with a current edition look up the highest Snow number for 1856, 1857, 1858 circulation strike Flying Eagle cents, so I can figure out what current variety numbers do not appear in the 1992 book?

Brand, this is way outside of my norm and is not of course a reference book but maybe have the numbers/examples you need to fill in. I have used this site a few times in the past and looks to have recently been updated. LINK https://indiancentvarieties.com/fly...nalysis.html

That article on the Seated dimes site is new to me, and is pretty much what I was looking for. Thanks! Assuming it is up to date (as of 2017), the answer to the question is: 1856 (S10), 1857 (S22), 1858 Large (S18), 1858 Small (S13). If anybody has the latest book and would care to confirm or correct, that would be great. I had checked the other two sites. The Indian cent Varieties site breaks everything down by feature like doubled die, Cud, rotated reverse. So I wasn't sure I could cobble together a list from that site. NGC VP isn't exhaustive. The other pretty good site I found was https://www.indianvarieties.com, although that also lists varieties by feature and not Snow number. Anyway, thanks for the help, that was definitely a great list, and not on a site that I would have expected. =)

In the service of completeness—and now that I have the book in hand—these are the Flying Eagle cent maximum Snow numbers from the 1992 book. There was a single addition for 1856, seven for 1857, and a surprising 13 for 1858 Large Date and 12 for 1858 Small Date. Clearly, I have some reading to do to understand the large increase in 1858 cataloged Snow varieties. 1992 edition: 1856 (S9), 1857 (S15), 1858 Large (S5), 1858 Small (S1) SLD website (presumed current): 1856 (S10), 1857 (S22), 1858 Large (S18), 1858 Small (S13)

Anyone looking for CORRECT information on the crosslisting of IHC/FEC, feel free to contact me. I'm not a very public person, but Ive found that most listings, references, etc., contain incorrect and/or ignored information, including Rick Snows. I'm working on a reference myself, and have information very few know. Alot of time and money has been spennt just trying to track down certain varieties pictures. I also collect and find myself especially specializing in FEC clashes, Cuds, MDC clashing, and IHC clashes and Cuds. Poliquin has been the most complete, up to date, and easy to contact. Just leaving that there. My field guide is approximately 1/4 of the way finished, the main text will be computer only, but printable, as its quite expansive.
