I don't typically come across British coins of this age, but after comparing with pictures online, I think this may be a contemporary counterfeit. Britannia looks somewhat elongated, and the curl under the shield isn't closed. Diameter a little over 28mm, I don't have a scale with me. Thoughts? What reference books should I be looking for, for both regal issues and contemporary counterfeit types?

That would, indeed, be a counterfeit. And an actual counterfeit, rather than an "evasion".

Thank you Sap. Looks like there's many types out there. Is there a reliable website for ID'ing these, or otherwise I can try and track down a certain book.
