Silver Medals Of Unknown Origin Or Purpose.

oriole Pillar of the Community Canada 5259 Posts	Posted 06/19/2026 8:18 pm I am including two items as they are related-and came from the same collection. Both appear to be silver, and are featureless aside from the initials on one side and what appears to be a date on the other. The larger has the initials I. F. F, and number 19 21/10 07, which surely must be the date of 21 October 1907. The smaller has the initials F. I. V. and the numbers 19 04/10 9=08, which surely must be the date of 4 October 1908. The larger is 31 mm and weighs 10. 8 grams. The smaller is 22 mm and weighs 5.4 grams. I am thinking an award or medal of some sort, but there is no indication of a reason or a country of origin, The collection has multiple examples of each type, plus a copper version of the larger one, and a different copper medal with the initials F. F. I on one side, and the words "1 sta. pris" within a wreath on the other side. Report this Post to the Staff

Greasy Fingers Pillar of the Community United States 7115 Posts	Posted 06/20/2026 01:05 am All I found by doing a quick search using " blue and yellow ribbon on a 1908 Medal" was this using Copilot Search Blue-and-Yellow Ribbon on a 1908 Medal A blue-and-yellow ribbon on a 1908 U.S. military medal most likely refers to the Spanish Campaign Medal or the West Indies Campaign Medal, both instituted in 1908 for service in the Spanish-American War or related Caribbean operations. Sap Moderator Australia 16876 Posts	Posted 06/21/2026 01:20 am As the medals are completely hand-made, they are likely "unique" so you probably won't find any information about them. Assuming it is a correct reading, the word "Pris" means "Prize" in both Norwegian and Swedish. The English word "first" is translated "första" in Swedish and "første" in Norwegian, making me lean towards a Swedish origin for the medal with that phrase on it. As for its origin, is there a history of Swedish colonists in your geographical area?
