MintedNotPrinted Pillar of the Community United States 1726 Posts	Posted Yesterday 11:43 pm This was in a bulk lot of late 19th to mid 20th century world coins and I'm not sure what to make of it. It has a brassy feel and appearance to it. I'm not sure if this was once a coin which got hammered and cracked or if it's some sort of hammered coin with a planchet crack. It could also be a piece of industrial trash, but having once walked away from a $5 blacksmith before knowing what they were, I'm no longer quick to judge 3.63g Approx. 0.050" (1.27mm) Thick (variable) 0.903" (22.94mm) to 0.931" (23.65mm) Diameter (variable) Edited by MintedNotPrinted Yesterday 11:45 pm Report this Post to the Staff

BUT, I am fully aware my brain is most likely seeing shapes in nothing Hondo, a button's not a bad guess, that same rectangular feature could have been where it fastened... I found some by searching "flat old shank buttons" on Google images which have a similar rim. I'm thinking 90% chance it's a broken shank button.
