Although I have gathered the ridiculous redesigns from 1999 to this year. ENOUGH. IT's DONE, FINISHED. US coin collecting has officially been murdered. Kaput, done, over. That was hasty. I mean, coin collecting after the turn of the century. A redesign every 2-3 months SERIOUSLY cheapens the hobby and makes it feel like a cheap crappy BS money game. Cheap. Okay, the Statehood Quarters were kinda cool. Even TEN YEARS, of redesigns. That's special! ONCE. Not in perpetuity, for crimminy's sake. In my view, a lack of stability does NOT lead to MY interest in collecting. When there's a new friggin' coin design every few months, sorry, but that blows it away for me. And yes, that has been going on for a quarter century, and yes, I've been objecting just as long. I've had it up to the gills with this B.S. and I'm content to end my collection before it began. In direct opposition to what others have said, I believe this crap is harmful to the hobby. Gone are the days when an album covered 60 years, and now it might cover a decade. Screw it!

You'll get little argument from me on those points, Vector Ze.
There are now so many circulating-commemorative quarters and dollar coins out there so as to make completion of a set something of a daunting task and possibly too much of financial commitment for the new collectors they're supposedly trying to bring into the hobby. Worse yet, the lack of aesthetic and artistic merit of many of the issues makes it an often-boring pursuit, as well.
The circulating commemoratives could have logically been limited to the 1976 Bicentennial issues, the 50-state quarters, 2009 Lincoln cents, and 2026 Semiquincentennial issues. As they say in show business: "Leave 'em wanting more!"
But no, that's not how it's going to go down. We'll undoubtedly see multi-year runs of State Flowers, First Ladies, State Birds...if they look to the Postal Service for inspiration, it could go on forever. And as we've already seen with philately, having too many new issues to collect every stinkin' year ruins it for many a collector.

If you're focusing solely on circulation strikes, this is simply not true. State Quarters, ATB Quarters, Women Quarters, and eventually these Youth Sports Quarters can all be collected from circulation or roll hunting. In fact, they're arguably the easiest series for young numismatists to collect, with billions made and quarters the most widely-circulated denomination. Kids still enjoy completing a map of State Quarters, at least in my experience gifting them, and now a series dedicated to youth sports should be even more exciting and relatable. I would still prefer an end to these long-running circulating commemoratives, but obviously that's never going to happen. Just ask Congress. So rather than fight a losing battle, I think numismatists should embrace what we have as a means to encourage more young collectors.

Also, when all is said in done, if you do not like it, do not collect it.

The many quarter design changes could become a lowball collector's dream. Virtually all designs should be recognizable and still identifiable by mint without a visible date all the way to virtual slug status. (The softball design should be the first of the new quarters to become dateless, but still recognizable by mint.) PO-01 may be too high for some of the lowballs. Will it be time for a "VP-005" lowball grade? The new quarter obverse is a bit much. I wasn't particularly looking for a design where we could end up counting Washington's nose hairs to determine strike quality.

You're not wrong here. Working at a casino, as I do, where all things money-related are topics of casual conversation for staffers and guests alike, I continue to observe fellow staffers roll-hunting our limitless supply of coinage while on break looking for 50 states and even Bicentennial quarters. Both of those commemorative series were a smashing success, generating interest in numismatics that has endured decades after they were released. It's my man-on-the-street observation that the quarters and especially dollar coins that have come since just don't seem to be generating much of a positive buzz or collecting interest from casual collectors and the general public. Here's hoping that the 2027 Youth Sports issues do better. I'm personally looking forward to seeing them in-hand.

Hard pass for me. I'm waiting for the infinite series "Stars in the Sky" to get back in.
