Coins I Found Cleaning The Basement Today.

In April 1997 my city (Grand Forks, ND) was devastated by a flood. Unfortunately I lost almost everything I owned. After salvaging some things laying in the floodwater I packed them up in 1997 and completely forgot about them until this afternoon while going through some boxes in the basement cleaning out a few things. Guess I should clean out the basement more often.

There was also a 1980 US Mint proof set in a cracked and discolored plastic case which was broken open and put into 2x2's this afternoon. Here are some other finds I bought decades ago and forgot about until today.

1979 Canadian mint set. The plastic was never breached so they're like new.






1965 New Zealand mint set. The half-crown is tarnished by the floodwater otherwise all are like new.






1967 USSR mint set. The two largest coins are tarnished otherwise they're like new.





It was great to find these long lost coins. There were also a bunch of $1 and $5 & $10 silver certificate bank notes, slightly wrinkled but dry. Years ago I saved the odd and unusual coin but never really collected much until a couple of years ago. Today it was like Christmas in June.
