Ok, so I'm reading my Red Book and this coin really interests me. I go over to ebay and see it has some pretty hefty pricing, and while checking through messages here I see that a VG can start at 45.00. I'd love to have one of these but not sure how to tell is someone is asking a ridiculous amount.

I would recommend staying away from ebay when purchasing pillars, unless you have a trusted dealer with a solid return policy, due to the ridiculous ammount of counterfeits in that series and your inexperience with it. Depending on the condition and relative scarcity of a particular date, you can get them as cheap as $200 for a nice VF example. XF for common dates would be around 350-500 bucks, and AU - around $1000.

Thanks, that is kinda what I was thinking. If anyone can lead me to a reputable online site that would be great. I have read there are a lot of counterfeits, and being so new I don't have the expertise to know the difference.

There's nothing up now, but keep an eye on http://www.newworldtreasures.com/ http://www.civitasgalleries.com or https://www.northeastcoin.com Also, they come up quite often at auctions like Heritage, Aureo, or Bowers/Ponterio

Here's a nice XF 45 I own as a type coin for Fernando VI pillar. I think I spent around 500 bucks on it and just love the color on it:

Thank you so much for sharing those links.
Wow! What a beautiful coin! Thank you for posting it's picture, it gives me an idea what vf should look like. Now I really want one of these.
