Well other than a 1874 CC Eagle which is staying in my collection, I have a 1844 O and a 1834 half eagles which would trade in at the same price I got them both for at about 1000, and for that I can get some decent looking common to better date Eagles of liberty or indian head, should I keep the $5s or get another $10?

This questions sounds like a relative to the question "which coin should I buy?". Unless you prefer one series over another, or you think that due to the mintage or demand one coin will be better for your purposes (eg. as an investment), it's almost impossible to say that one coin is better than another. If you prefer having two coins over one, fine. If you like the design on the $10, then get that. Unfortunately I don't think there really is a definitive answer to you question. Just get the coins you like at a good price, and hopefully the investment part will take care of itself
