Who's going to argue with a pretty lady like that. She say's take me home then do it! Nice early piece. The 17 seperates the men from the boys

I'm going out on the edge here in saying it looks like an S.145 which is a rarity 3. We'll not much of an edge.
Great buy. Anytime you get a copper in a condition to identify it, it is a great coin.

Wow! I'm a num nut. I didn't see that you identified it at the top of the picture.
Guess I wasn't a big help after all. Sorry!

I like it! Smooth surfaces and great color, no damage. It is low grade but choice for the grade.

Anything that has 1798 on it is worth taking home! Super coin!

Any ideas on why it has such an odd, uneven wear pattern? How could it still have denticles on parts of both sides while other sections are completely bald? Is this from a weak strike? It also looks off center.

I would guess from a weak strike but I am sure others who know more can tell you more.

I think the wear pattern could be due to die swelling. I was looking at Tom Reynolds site and he had a 1798 with the same sheldon number that he said had some die swelling. Also, I do happen to have a 1797 S-138 large cent that had a somewhat similar wear pattern to yours. On mine, reverse is almost worn smooth with faint remnants of most of the wreath and lettering but the several of the letters in AMERICA are very well defined.
