jpsned Pillar of the Community United States 2221 Posts	Posted 10/23/2011 11:00 pm I own a copy of Yeoman's 1956 Blue Book. It gives a listing for the 1804 half dollar like this: 1804 (1 known) Discovered by a dealer in 1933. But modern coin guides do not list this date at all. Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 10/24/2011 10:35 am I'm familiar with it. There were no 1804 half dollars struck but two 1804 dated obverse dies were made but not hardened. These were overdated in 1805 and put into use. The second die shows almost the entire 4 clearly below the 5. The 1804 half dollar was a piece that turned out to have been tooled to remove all traces of the 5 and just leave the 4. I believe it is discussed in Don Taxay's Counterfiet, Mis-struck, and Unofficial US coins. Report this Post to the Staff
