For the last several days I've been watching this auction on ebay UK for a 1921 Walking Liberty half dollar. It ended today and I was banging my head against the desk because I wasn't able to bid on it and it sold for $8.35! Sure it is only in AG condition, but still...

The coin is in the UK and the seller would only ship to Europe, not the US. Oh well, next time I guess!

At 97% feedback, you're kind of rolling the dice. Besides, don't beat yourself up: quite possibly the winning bidder may have gone much higher.

Saruma - this alone is one of the reasons I use an auction sniping tool to bid on auctions. Yes, yes, I'm one of those.

It allows me to put my top bid in any time I want and walk away. I don't get emotionally involved in the process, I don't second-guess myself if the somebody bids higher - it's just a done deal. I can forget about it and when the auction is over, come back and check it out.

IMHO, loss of that coin isn't scarce enough to warrant beating yourself up or losing any sleep over.
And cheap or otherwise, the ultra-worn condition will always be calling out for an upgrade.

I understand what you are saying delaner, but that isn't the point here. Even with a sniping tool I couldn't have bought that. The coin is in the UK and I am in the US. The seller will only ship to Europe. It isn't so much that I was in love with the coin, I was in love with the price of the coin. Getting a key date for around 1/10th of its real value is the real attraction to me on this one!

bibd, I looked into the feedback. Actually the seller has so few sales that it is a single negative that dropped her to 97%. The issue there seems to be that the buyer was unhappy the stuffed animal she bought smelled like smoke.

I'm not that upset about this to be honest. The dateless 1916 SLQ hidden in a big coin lot that I lost out on a couple weeks ago was a tougher pill to swallow.
