Need Opinion On Bust Quarter - Coin Community Forum

After looking at a couple examples, it was G06 maybe. The rims are almost gone. I could see going G06 but would value it at G04. Market grading I guess. Report this Post to the Staff

G4 Good - Date, letters, and stars readable. Hair under headband smooth. Cap lines worn smooth. VG8 Very Good - Rim well defined. Main details visible. Full LIBERTY on cap. Hair above eye nearly smooth. F12 Fine - All hairlines show but drapery has only part details. Shoulder clasp distinct. VF20 Very Fine - All details show, but some wear. Clasp and ear sharp. EF40 Extremely Fine - All details show distinctly. Hair well outlined. AU50 About Uncirculated - Slight trace of wear on tips of curls and above the eye, and on the wing and claw tips. MS60 Uncirculated - No trace of wear. Light blemishes. MS63 Select Uncirculated - Some distracting contact marks or blemishes in prime focal areas. Luster may be impaired Using the grading standards listed, I'm going with G-6. IMO, at $250, it's over-priced. Report this Post to the Staff

shinystuff6 Valued Member United States 60 Posts	Posted 11/04/2011 7:59 pm All I can say is if full rims are needed to be a VG8, then there are alot of coins on ebay that are overgraded and overpriced. How do you take into consideration the strike then? Can a coin have weakness in strike along part of the rim to the point where the rim merges with the lettering and still be called a VG8? If I was to buy coins like this(with strike weakness)as I just pointed out above, I could see myself having trouble selling it to a dealer as a VG8, they would definitely want to knock it down to a G4 or G6. Another thing, a dealer that is unwilling to budge on a VG8 grade with a weak rim is probably not going to sell it at G4 or G6 money either. This is going to be a battle putting together a group of Capped Bust quarters in VG8! Report this Post to the Staff
