ive been researching and cant find a similar error so I cant classify it. I also would like to know the value of this. it looks like a piece of a penny got caught in the press and imprinted its image on the die. when this quarter was struck, the mirror image of a piece of a penny was imprinted on the quarter. it sounds impossible. it has to be die damage because its raised when a penny caught in the press would cause an indented part. any oppinions or knowledge would be appreciated. I was also thinking of sending it to a grading company and was wondering which one would be best for something like this. in the black circle you can see the mirror image of the "d" and "a" from "canada" on the penny and in the red circle you can see a part of the maple leaf. the triangular piece is raised slightly off the surface of the quarter. you can also see the beads and the rim of the penny starting in the crown and ending beside the "e" in elizabeth. thank you in advance for your help. my gut feeling would be a "home made error"...
i.e. someone cut a piece of a penny, perhaps heated it and pressed it on the quarter
but there are more knowledgeable people here about these, so I'm curious what they'll say..

if someone heated the penny and stuck it on it would be copper unless they first removed the plating. but I think the zinc would look different than the quarter. also it wouldnt be a mirror image right? and you can still see the quarters details as well

Looks like PMD to me, commonly called a "vice error".

Are the mystery elements raised or incused...

They are RAISED. If it was PMD I think it would be indented. So I'm still thinking it's an error. Keep the opinions coming. Thanks

Being "raised" makes it much more interesting now :)

Is that coin silver or nickel? It looks like a 25c...

The reverse looks like any regular quarter. There are no unusual markings.

My first impression is you have a coin with some dried clear glue on it. ~ JFK ~

Is it possible to get a raised impression of the penny onto this quarter?

Quote: The reverse looks like any regular quarter. There are no unusual markings. I want to reiterate the importance of nickelsguy's request. Can you please post a clear picture of the reverse? It is not necessarily the presence of something unusual, it can sometimes be the lack of something minor and expected, especially with a metal that some of us are very familiar with...
