Does anyone have an informed view on where bulk silver and other bullion coins go?

Does anyone have a real insight as to whether old silver, nickel and copper coins are actually being melted down for their metal value? Or are they just being hoarded? I am curious to know if we are seeing an ongoing reduction in the number of coins that will ever be in the market or whether they are essentially all still out there......

I'm no expert on this, but I've heard that some go into coin bullion bags and are sold to investors. These bags are traded as bullion, not as coins. I don't think that they're actually melted. Although I don't doubt that some are.

Some silver coins are melted, I know this because I sent some to a refinery myself. (dont worry nothing valuable)

Copper and nickel coins are illegal to melt right now but I'm sure people do it.

Violet beserker is right, some coins are compiled into face value bags and sold to investors.

But to answer your question YES silver coins are being melted and not just hoarded.

At least in the US
