i have been buying uncleaned lots on ebay buy I haven't found anyone yet that I would buy from again. So far everyone has claimed that their quality is much higher than it actually is. The majority has turned out to be worn out with little to no detail left and even a few little chunks that don't even resemble coins anymore. One seller even sent me a lot that he had partially cleaned to the point where he could tell they were worthless and decided to sell them. Two were actually bare metal after a rinse. I enjoy cleaning them and slowly revealing an artifact and then figuring out where they are from and when they were made. I'm sure you all understand. But these dishonest sellers are killing the hobby for me. I would really appreciate it if anyone could direct me to a respectable seller. Thanks

Again, I hesitate to respond as I'm not sure of the rules about posting ID's of sellers on this thread. If anyone knows for sure, please post it here. I know of at least one seller in Canada that I've received only the best uncleaned lots. I will be glad to share this seller with you once the rules are cleared up. I have nothing to gain from IDing this seller.

P.S. Tevlon you can look at the thread Vespasian Pics and get my email. I will share it that way.

i apologize if I am breaking the rules - I've been restoring ancients about 4 years now, and can give you a total of 3 honest, no hidden agenda, sellers. I'm not being paid to promote any of these, I'm just sharing information based upon my own experiences. 1. empiredanny on ebay is a totally upfront guy with very fair pricing 2. cerberus coins - a very good source, but they are from australia, so shipping takes a while and can be expensive 3. dirtyoldcoins - a solid, dependable seller

Tevlon: the email adress on that post is good. Did you try the address I posted near the end of that thread? I got an email from another member who read that thread and sent me a message.
Regardless, two of the dealers mentioned by aboarman I have used with good result. His number 1 and number 3. The dealer I was speaking about is Purse of the Legionary in Canada. I have never been disappointed in the coins I've received from him.

I do believe our comedian here is referring to the subject line "looking for ....uncleaned sellers". I suppose they haven't bathed in a while? It is kinda funny JW

I agree on several of the aforementioned sellers. Purse of the Legionary, Desimone 1, and KenRogers on ebay are excellent. The Dirty Old Coins website run by Rasiel Suarez, a leading historian in the field, is amazing and by far my favorite. I have purchased from all of these sellers multiple times and have been satisfied every time.

I bought a few from dirty old. I didn't want to wait on an auction and maybe lose still and I figured shipping would be cheaper than the australian seller. They should be here tomorrow hopefully. I'll let you know how they are. I'll also check out the other 2 that coin guy mentioned.
Thanks for all the great suggestions. This has been a big help. Feel free to keep them coming.

Any time a seller tells you "someone even found gold", he's probably lying or at best mis-leading. If you believe these coins haven't already been gone over with a fine tooth comb to find any precious metal, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell. I would shy away from this seller.
