Woody Coin Question - Coin Community Forum

awgheadhunter Valued Member United States 63 Posts	Posted 11/07/2011 5:41 pm I know woody coins are from improperly mixed metals but is it possible to have a Zincoln be a woody? curious because I found a 1982 small date that the front is a very nice woody look to it and I dont have a scale to weigh the coin to be sure if its copper or zinc. Zinc ones or pure Coppper should make no difference. Although I've never seen a the later dated ones like that. Can you post a photo? Report this Post to the Staff

Since there is no alloy involved, it is not possible to have an improperly mixed alloy issue on a Zincoln. However, Zincolns gave rise to a new oddity- the brass-plated cents, due to zinc blanks occasionally dissolving in the electrochemical plating bath which turns the pure copper plating into yellow brass. Zincoln cents and Golden Dollars. I found one Gold Dollar from 2009 that had no luster, was completely dull, and was EX-45... but I've never seen a zincoln lower than that.
