If You Could "even Trade" For A Coin, What Would It Be ?

eaglefoot Pillar of the Community United States 6326 Posts	Posted 11/11/2011 2:12 pm I do really like IHC's a lot..........but I always seem so busy with others, that I don't "get around" to putting a collection together. I've got a couple dozen IHC's in a three ring binder in 2x2's too. And I remember buying 50 IHC's one time from a shop about 5 or 6 years ago.....put them all into coin tubes and then into the safety deposit box.....and that's where they've been ever since ! I'm sure they were all "low end" common dates with a lot of dupes in there....but still, it'll be a "start" for a collection of IHC's someday ! But trading my Gold Buffalo for the 1877 Key......WHEW ! That would be a good buy I know.....but I haven't "lifted a finger" to help that collection along in YEARS ! I wonder what kind of grade I could expect (slabbed of course) for $1,800.00 for this 1877 ? ..... And not counting the varieties, DD's, or whatever, after this monster key.......all the other IHC's seem at least reasonably affordable. Hmmmm..........this is all certainly food for thought, for me ! ....... Gettin' me thinkin' ! Report this Post to the Staff

It is a coin I will definitely buy eventually, as it is one of twelve Indian Head cents I need to complete the set. To be honest, I will probably buy the 1877 before the 1916-D. Although it does not matter which is first, since both collections are in the same custom Dansco album (along with the Buffalo nickels). I have the same buffalo and had not thought about getting rid of it. Now with this topic you have me trying to make the same decision that you have! I am leaning towards the 1916-D, since that is the set I am closest to finishing. I believe that a key date will be a better investment than the gold coin. Gold will continue to fluctuate but the key date coins seem to hold value better. Report this Post to the Staff

I would sell the gold and hold the money, taking my time to find the right coin(s). I voted 1909 S vdb. I don't think you can go wrong there. Getting a XF or better slabbed coin .. I think you could have some left over. Now you got me thinking .. what gold could I sell to go towards a 1922 no D .. because I have the S vdb .. Report this Post to the Staff

I do love this coin and it's design.....the American Indian and Buffalo are special to my heart. But this "design" is also on the Buffalo nickel, obviously, so I don't "have" to have it in "gold" to appreciate it. But it is like a Marquee Banner of sunshine for that design to "be" in gold. But I also realize the potential folly of hanging on to gold for too long.....and also the risk of parting with it too early....or not at all too, if not JUST for the simple enhancement of my collection. It just boils down to this..... Would I appreciate MORE, having a REAL desirable key date Merc. or Lincoln or IHC, that I'll never be able to afford otherwise, except by the sale of this Buffalo coin ? If I had a "complete" Lincoln Dansco with Proofs ? ...... Would this be MORE satisfying than holding on to a gold Buffalo ? Or a "complete" Mercury dime collection ? I'm thinking ....... Y.E.S. ......it *would* be more satisfying ! Of course, this all goes into the garbage if I have to sell it due to the bad economy directly affecting my business and family ! ....
