Can You Remove Pad Printing? - Coin Community Forum

steve - Oz 50c man Valued Member Australia 490 Posts	Posted 11/18/2011 06:52 am Here is a normal bullion and coloured 2007 Perth Mint Lunar Series I 1/2oz Pig: And here is something that I came across today: It appears to be a coloured coin that either is a mint error (the pad printing was not applied) OR it has had the printed image removed. My question is this: could you remove the pad printing without damaging the coin? Even under magnification there was no obvious signs of damage... Report this Post to the Staff

I would have thought that the acetone would leave some trace or damage to the shiny parts of the coin on the silver 1/2oz, but as I am not a metallurgist I don't really have a clue, but if someone said to be that I could soak a silver coin in acetone for several hours and it would not get damaged I would be very tempted to give them pretty good odds against... there you go, I learnt something today so it is a great day already - thanks again Purple Penny.
