Brevnov Monastery (Czech: Břevnovský klášter) is a Benedictine monastery in Břevnov, Prague. It was founded by Prince Boleslav II and Saint Adalbert, bishop of Prague in 993 AD. Here is my Denar of Boleslav II, funny thing, suspiciously similar to a penny of Ethelred II.

You are right it looks very like early English pennies - and I've seen that hand motif before - it's one that is used for my part of the world too. That's a great coin! Yes. At that times, only a few people could read and write and obviously the die maker wasn't one of them. He just blindly copied a coin design without thinking.

Looks like James ___ at 11 o'clock. Could they be significant signatures?

I don't know - I had assumed it was a depiction of the writings of the original charter for setting up the University. But I hadn't researched it. Good spot with "James" though.

I find that fascinating. An engraver so ignorant that he didn't know the die has to be the reverse of the finished product.
