Hi all
I bought my first box of Kennedy's today and got through about 5 rolls and found a 1967 and a 1964 that both look like silver. the 64 weighs 12.5, but the 67 only weighs 11.7. would this be a proof or something or just a normal 67? the 67 is the coin on the left in the comparison pic.

The 64 is 90% silver.
the 67 is 40% silver.
Both normal weights.

There were no proof coins in 1967. They mad Special Mint Sets from 1965-1967. no mint marks to keep the coins from being pulled from circulation. They were trying to replace all the silver pulled from circulation after 90% silver was stopped being used. The 1965-1970 Halves had a copper coin covered with 40% silver. So the copper doesn't show on the edges of the halves till 1971.

Many of the silver-clad halves (1965-1970) show a line along the edge caused by the different color or reflectivity of the center 20% silver alloy compared to the outer 80% silver alloy. However, some have a uniform bright silver edge with no visible lines. A few worn or dirty examples show a reddish edge tint that makes them look like a copper-nickel clad coin. All these are "normal" variations.

The ones to watch out for are the 1965 coins with 12.5 gram weight. Those would be rare errors struck on leftover 90% silver planchets and are worth a lot. I don't know anyone who ever found one but they do exist.
