Yes, Nickleguy had a great idea for you. That would help her out and you'd be on her good side.

That's why I love TD Bank. They are everywhere in NJ & NY. There are usually at least 2 TD banks in a 5 mile radius at any given time and they all have the Penny arcade.

Why doesn't somebody come out with a clear plastic wrapper, with lines on it to SHOW both full amount, and, quick easy view of rims/denominations? I'm off to the Patent Office...

I once had a huge miss altercation with BOA. Basically one day I was buying a house. I had the money in a BOA account. Then it was time for me to go get my money to give to escrow but magically BOA said they could not verify I was me (even with my drivers license and my ATM card) So they refused to give me my money and I sat in the bank for 9 hours refusing to leave untill they gave me my money.

Well that account at BOA is still open however now it sits empty with 1 penny in it at all times. Then every once in awhile I go roll hunting them put the 1500$ of coins in a bag and dump them at BOA. Paybacks a BEEEEP

Very nice Chris! Needless to say I haven't returned any more rolls at this point to that bank. I have others I can go to. Too bad I don't need the money counted in the coinstar for a Starbuck's card if that was the case theres no charge for that. otherwise its like 9.8 cents/dollar.

If I'm not mistaken she couldn't have sold the foreign coin to him to make up the difference. I believe they can only exchange currency, not sell for a profit. I think they also have to dispose of foreign currency.

My dump bank loves me. :)
They are the main branch for the region and supply businesses with rolled coin, so they have a counter and have no problem with me bringing loose change in. I also buy dollar coins from them, so they like that too.
Plus it never hurts to drop some goodies on the tellers...chocolate is always welcome. Especially this time of year.

Because it won't work. Counting by length is inaccurate due to the mixture of new and used coins and poorly struck and well struck coins A length taken from averaging many rolls will work for many rolls but there will always be a few rolls that will be a few coins over and a few that will be a few coins under.

Don't they charge a maintenance fee if you don't keep a minimum daily balance?

My wife is a teller and her bank won't accept rolled coins from anyone who doesn't have an account, and if you DO have an account, you have to write your account number on the roll so that they can hunt you down if there's a problem.

I'm a little surprised to hear the original poster say that his teller had to "make up" the $5.50 shortfall. I didn't think ANY bank did that (my wife's doesn't) and I'm sure she wouldn't get to "keep" any overages. I would have thought it would simply go towards performance reviews and everything connected to that.

I'm shocked your wife's doesn't. Every bank I know of, if your drawer's short, you have to pay it. That includes any counterfeits in the drawer. That's why it's common to get counterfeits from the bank, teller sees it in there and gives it out to the next customer because they don't want to pay for it.

Odd, all the worry for only being short $5.50? When I was a teller, it was acceptable for us to be short or over within $10 at the end of any given day. Anything more or less was reported as a variance against our record.

A strong magnet will a tell you if there is foreign coin in a roll or not. I live about 20 minutes from Canada and we see a lot of Canadian coin in the rolls, but could run a magnet over them and know immediately what was U.S. and what wasn't.

I have never heard of a teller 'making up the difference' for any shortage, it just goes on your record. If I was this teller, I would take Weerdsteev's comment and make it into an argument: from now on I will put any overages on the side and offset them to any future shortages. Seems fair to me and I actually knew some tellers that used to do that within a few dollars here and there.

No need for a patten ilikeikes
and Conder101 not true about the clear coin wrappers not working. While working at a gas station store we used to get clear snap together coin rollers from a customer, they were always dead on in count and you could see if canadian clear edges were present, or if he had wrong denominations mixed into the rolls.
here is a link to a site showing a picture of them

They aren't really that expensive either. I mean I get free paper wrappers from my bank, but for older people and such this is a great idea and it works really really well.

to add on to what I just posted
Unless you have a bunch of really worn coins the only thing you can do is put too many by like 1 or 2 coins into the roll, which wouldn't hurt the bank, just the fool who doesn't know how to count up to at least 50 lol
