Went to dump my halfs along with a few rolls of cents I had looked through at my local bank today and when I checked the bottom of the coin counting machine for rejects etc, look what was right there! 1858 Flying Eagle cent!  Amazing what other people just dis-card, not knowing what they are dumping etc.   Edited by chuckster 125

Why would it eject a FE? Too thick? Wrong composition?  Edited by oih82w8

Good question! I don't know why it was rejected, but it was. The rim on this coin is definitely thicker than a Lincoln Cent, maybe that triggered it to reject? Edited by chuckster 125

I was thinking the same thing, wonder what else this person dumped into the machine?
Would have loved to buy that $50.00 bag when full, but this bank will not sell them to the public! :(

Thicker and heavier. The diameter is the same as the current cent.

diameter is actually a tad smaller than a modern cent, thats why it was rejected

I thought it was thickness and or weight.
