With the rarity of our 20 cent 1966 wavy and 2000 $1 / 10 cent mules I've been wondering if anyone has heard of any fakes as yet. I've seen a few coins that look a bit dodgy to me on ebay and with their costs I suppose it's only a matter of time before someone has a go at producing fakes. Has anyone seen or heard of any as yet?

It's not a matter of if but its a matter of when these start coming out of China.
If it smells of fish and rice don't touch it

I once read, perhaps on the threepence blog page, that the 1966 wavy had many people to forge them - what they would do would be to (I'm going from memory...) place something hot on the 2 to give it the bump on the baseline. So what the advice from whereever I read it said, is you need to make sure the bump in the baseline is mirrored in the wave above it.

- Otherwise could have been attempted forgery, OR, it could just be a die error- Either way, look for the bump to be mirrored! -

There are some 'home made' wavies that people need to be on the lookout for. I copied this image from somewhere, can't remember where, but it's a DIY job. Note that the curve is not reflected in the wave above the baseline, which is a dead giveaway for this fake.

Browsing the bay of E today; came across this one In2Fish --> good timing or what?! The seller has posted close up of the 2 but the bump isn't mirrored in the wave above. Hope it helps

The one on ebay is not right, it's simply been hit with something as it looks flattened in the wave area.

Yes I have seen heaps of types of fakes for wavy 2s.
Heres some good info on real stuff.

There are two different types I have seen on the net.
Both should be lighter pressed in at the wave part. If it's a deep gouge it's faked.

The first type I would call a overhang

And the other is the simple little bump that doesn't have a major curve to it.

Yes, I saw that one on ebay too. No wave in the swirl.
Only saving grace is asking price is so high that probably nobody will be interested in it.

same, the $40 one! I may be kicking myself one day but, the swirl above isn't right and the wavy bit looks like it has been hammered down, not raised

There also appears to be the absence of the reflection indentation in the wave immediately above the wavy crest.
