Some of the outline is still there but looks great in comparison to the dunk!

One more thing. As you research the use of acetone here at CCF, you will see advice both for and against rinsing after the acetone. Me, I'm a fan of the rinse, and here's why: See all the green up near the denticles? That wasn't there before, and I know where it came from. I didn't rinse this coin before shooting it. A few more minutes in acetone, followed by a rinse at the highest pressure my tap will provide, and then a swish back into acetone to remove any impurities my tapwater added, took care of it. You cannot swish a coin in acetone hard enough to remove this stuff without splashing it all over the place, and quite possibly the only liquid more dangerous than acetone is nitroglycerin.

Thanks Dave for the tutorial. I've tried acetone experimentally on a few coins. I did it outside on a cold day & couldn't believe how fast it evaporated. Now I know how to slow that down. Another day, another great learning opportunity from the forum family.

Glad it worked out for you. I bought a nice Liberty nickel the other day for half of what it should sell for because it had PVC on it. I simply put it in acetone and sure enough the PVC is gone and my coin doubled in value!

Nice conservation Dave! Quote: quite possibly the only liquid more dangerous than acetone is nitroglycerin.
Ahhhh...that's not even close to being true. You're blowing that WAY out of proportion. Other than flammability, acetone is a very safe solvent. Your body even natually produces acetone. Millions of chemists like myself work with acetone on a daily basis because it is safe and effective.

I did not even notice the top of the "thunder box". I was too distracted by the blue "Coca-Cola" (?) glass.

Great results Dave and thanks for the step by step. I've only tried acetone a couple of times and it evaporated so quickly. OK, I learned something!

Excellent results. I know we do not do stickies. But if we did, this would qualify.
