I'll have to start with like the lowest there is, I'll probably buy my first gold this year.
Whats the lowest Gold amount, 1/20?
Whats the denomination?Is it $2.5
How much does it cost?

Bullion is way outside my area of expertise, but if you're collecting for the collection, you want monetary gold anyways. If that's the case, I reiterate my argument in favor of world issues. The market is small in demand, and fairly large in supply, so with a little research you could snag some pretty good deals. |

If you want gold as an investment, then simply go to a brokerage firm, like Fidelity Investments, and buy gold. It's safe and easily liquidated. If you want gold coins as a hobby, then collect different types of coins from the United States or foreign countries that are related to history. For example, the Byzantine solidus, the Florentine florino, and Venetian ducat make an interesting group of medieval gold coins. Spanish escudos are the coins of pirate lore. A guinea or sovereign of each English monarch makes a nce gallery of royal portraits.

Dave, I wouldn't know a good foreign coin from a basketball, so even though I loved looking at the pics, I know not what they are. For us with little experience, instead of pics please list some examples by country, coin name and denomination that you might recommend. Thx Jim |

that is a problem I am coming against when buying gold coins also because these things were so widely counterfeited I am having to pay the premium for graded examples on ebay. I really need to do some studying on these things especially if I am planning on buying more gold than just the few its going to take to fill the holes in the Dansco7070. I wouldn't mind having one example of the famous "Omega" counterfeited coins just because they were so very well done, but some of the prices of them are pretty close to the originals because of the craftsmanship that went into them and because they are so famous because they fooled the experts for so long |

U.S. 1/10 oz (it's about the size of tip of your index finger and it's denomination is $5 (U.S.) the cost would be roughly 1/10 of current market or $60++ for right now. I don't think that Fidelity would sell to someone your age - not sure but, if you picked up one a month by the time you were in your 30's you'd have quite a stash! Try harlanjberk.com......they are highly recommended and good prices. |
