The smell is not always that great. I have a set of 16 1979 "Knight/Stone" consecutive $1. notes. Bought them off ebay a few years ago,the ad said ripples from moisture otherwise UNC,that's why they were cheap. I am now guessing they were kept under the mattress of someone with incontinence, have had them outside airing on many occasions however the smell/stink lingers. The moral...cheap is not always cheap.

Here is my $1 note I picked out of circulation about 30 years ago. Not in the greatest condition and not worth a whole lot but to me it's sentimental value makes it priceless.

Thats a Coombs Wilson note, The first lot of Aussie one dollar notes to be printed. They made the 1 and 2 dollar notes in a similar colour to the ten shilling and 1 pound notes that they replaced.

Quote: They made the 1 and 2 dollar notes in a similar colour to the ten shilling and 1 pound notes that they replaced. Yes I noticed that when I collected a few pre decimal bank notes. Also the 5 pound notes are blue and the 10 pound notes are red. They became the blue $10 note and red $20 note when we went decimal. Even our $10 and $20 polymer notes have continued with this colour scheme. Just for a bit of nostalgia, here is an old paper $20 note This note is from 1972 and at the time was the highest denomination note we had (it wasn't until 1973 that the $50 was issued)
