Neutral for me. Tried that marryin' thang a couple of times back in the day - costs too much to get rid of 'em. Now, my significant other is an old, fat, grey and white tom cat - don't think he minds one whit whether I collect coins, or anything else for that matter as long as I keep food and water in the bowls for him, and let him out when he goes to the door. Works out pretty good. Ralph

Guess I am still one of the LUCKY ones as my wife is an avid collector also. We never question prices paid on any coin as we have found most classics only increase in value and we tend to go after unc's unless it is key dates. With the market being what it is right now a great number of purchases in the last 6 years have more than doubled in value.

My wife feigns interest to be nice, but I know she doesn't care. She also has no idea how much I spend on the hobby.

I voted Neutral, I don't think she minds as long as I don't go overboard on it buying everything in site lol, She has her hobby (Scrapbooking). This poll pretty much came on the same day that my other forum that I go to had a thing about spouse. The other forum is Pogoaddiction and the woman was asking the forum advice on getting her husband to buy another year subscription to Club Pogo. (I play games there all the time)

Somewhat encourage- because I just asked her and that's what she said. I think the only thing that gets her goat is when whatever I'm doing precludes me from spending significant time with her, such as trolling through the forums for too long. She's not big on me spending so much time on the computer. Regards, ~neuron EDIT: I almost forgot, her hobby is a horse that runs us $200-$300 every month in boarding and vet bills. So...

I voted for "Somewhat encourage", actually sometime she asks to know which coins I'm cataloging, she try to get interest to understand if coins has some value and so on, but sometime she complains because I'm crazy to spend so much time in coin collections but above all she doesn't know how much I spend in money ...

My wife has always thought that having hobbies was a good thing. Her dad was also a collector, so she understands. At this point, I don't spend a great deal of $ on coins, AND I have yet to buy any coins using "household" money, so there really is no reason at all for her to be down on it. If I started using household money on coins, that wouldn't set quite as well....

My wife strongly encourages my coin collecting, and when we go to our favorite coin store she watches what I buy so that she can justify buying coins for herself. I'm not entirely sure of her motivation. She doesn't spend a lot of time looking at her coins, but she seems real pleased to have them, and keeps them in her small little safe. A few months back we were in the coin store and the lady showed us a Gold Buffalo she had for sale. She wanted $505 for it. I said "Nope, we just can't afford it." Then, about 20 miles down the road toward home, the wife says, "That's a beautiful coin and would probably be a good investment also." So, when we got home, we called the coin store and asked them to hold it for us. A couple days later, out comes the credit card, and we now have a Gold Buffalo. The wife recently added a silver Panda and a $2 1/2 gold piece to her collection. Like me, she is a semi-retired teacher, and she works hard for her money. She enjoys buying coins and encourages me to do the same!!

Biokemist6 ... thanks for the links.
I agree, generally, I am not the first in line for colorized coins, but the picture posted by Steve is beautiful ... I am definitely going to look into that one!

I just took a look at the Australian link ... with the exception of buying my dad the Kookaburra coins, I haven't ever really looked at Australian coins before. I have to say, there are some really pretty coins. That shopping expedition may get expensive

My wife seems interested at times but she also doesn't like that I spend so much time on the computer in forums. She occasionally asks me questions about the coins I collect. She collects fractional currency but only buys when we go to a coin show together.

She tolerates it but want me to be sure to leave instructions when I pass as to how to get rid of them as she has no clue as to what I have and how valuable it is.
