My wife is somewhat interested as long as I dont spend too much money I have tried to get her more into the hobby by purchasing for her world coins with dolphin designs (she loves anything with a dolphin on it) and that has enhanced her interest. Curently, I am saving up to get her a big boy- a 1915 Pan-Pac $1 gold, only one of two US coins ever minted to feature a dolphin in the design. The other is the octagonal $50 Pan-Pac and that is just way outta my budget...

Its very simple.
she doesn't ask how much I spent on the last coin, and I don't ask her how much she just spent at the hairdressers. We both think the other is wasting money I guess...

Excellent question and thread!

I had to vote "somewhat discourage" and I was tempted to vote "strongly discourage." My wife doesn't come out and say it, but I really believe there are other ways she rather have me spend my time/money. Luckily she works the 3 - 11 shift (nurse) so I get to spend a lot of time when she's at work in this forum or looking on ebay. Of course the nights she is home, I get the cold shoulder if I go near the computer! Worse things I could spend my money or free time on but I'll never tell her that!

I was showing my new gold Buffalo to my wife at the dinner table and she said "yea that's neat, pass the salt". So I said neutral.

No spouse or other. Just 2 daughters in college. Oldest one thinks all I do is play with my coins. The other looks out for me. She works at subway part-time and calls me asking me if I have this or that. The oldest one takes after her mother. Youngest after me. This is a great thread.

somewhat support ; as I work on two sets one for me;and one for her,she has something to 'show' for my time and efforts. four times I've sold on E-bah: 4 modern 'pennies' one cent pieces , from 2004; 1 $50.00,3 x $10.00 total $80.00 gave the money to her; then said look here are X_number of just the same. attempted to relate to her my perspective: that over time, it is likely (or at least possible) that the values will increase.however she's more into:" how much can I spend NOW!!!"the give -N- take('s) to make the relationship(s) work is just our fate(s)...

Bobby is very positive about coins I purchase for resale, but not so enthusiastic about coins I purchase for my collection...

Biokemist6 -- I collect dolphins too ... I had never thought about dolphin coins. What are some of her (and yours too) favorites? Thanks for the idea!

Had to laugh when I read that, that's exactly what I did too! My ex claimed to have no interest in coins, and told me it was silly to "spend money to buy money", but yet he hoarded bicentennial quarters. Go figure... Now I don't have to answer to anyone but myself and my checking account balance when it comes to coins!

My wife just glances and says, "that's a pretty one" then goes back to whatever she was doing. She never asks how much they cost mainly because she knows the kids will be getting them in the long run.

Here are the links to the stocking stuffer purchases I made for her for Christmas
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...38&rd=1&rd=1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...97&rd=1&rd=1

Also, the coin that triggersmob posted is another- a colourized Ocean series $1 AUS. I purchased that one from a member's store (Bigfella) http://www.newcastlecoins.com.au/

I am normally not a fan of colourized coins, but this one was created by the Royal Australian Mint and it is stunning!

My wife is very supportive and in fact makes every attempt to be part of my collecting; though she states that she does not want to collect herself. Last night, she was at the table with me loop in hand with the ANA grading book trying to grade some new pennies I had purchased. Hey, maybe she is a closet collector! Jim
