Speculation plays a big part I'm sure. Coupled with a $20 for $20 face value, many should think the risk is minimal.
As with anything in life, buying strictly for the purpose of speculation can lead to major disappointments (and financial trouble). I'm sticking with the fun part of collecting. If I can make a few bucks along the way - fine.
But looking at the future of circulating currencies Vs other electronic payment methods, and the impact on coins in general I am pretty certain that there will be a continuing decrease in utilization thus affecting exposure for potential new collectors. I can't see this trend going the other way, unless the numismatic base manages to reverse that trend.
Based on that logic, (and I may be wrong) by ricochet NCLT will also suffer and only few coins will draw a significant and durable demand. I still continue to trust base metal to be the major component to support NCLT value. Beware of silver plated copper, steel, etc. Only time will tell I suppose.
