In Krause, this coin comes in two different verieties. One "Sword privy mark" and the other "Sword in scabbard privy mark". I have aquired two such coins from the same collector, unfortunately without any information. I have not been able to tell whether I have two of one or both. Not do I know which of these varieties are used for the rest of the series. Can anyone tell me what to look for, and how? I apologize for not offering pictures, but these coins are really small and I am unable to offer much in the way of detail with my limited equipment and skill. The coins are not exactly high grade either, which does not help.
I found this site showing the privy marks, looks like one has a small diamond at he end of the sword where the other does not, I assume the diamond one is the one with scabbard. http://www.jezuss.nl/munttekens.htm
Thank you, Rdwarrior! The wear makes it difficult to tell for sure, but both 1874's have a somewhat longer sword than a 1871 I have, so I assume both have Scabbards. This is logical, the version without is definitely the most difficult one.
