I'm bringing this old topic back. If you look back to the original post you will see where I pulled out an apple juice jar that my Grandfather filled with pennies in the mid 80's. He gave it to me when I was a child and I had forgot about it. Well we were cleaning up at my grandparents old house and I found these hidden in the back corner of a closet. I know that they haven't been touched or seen in atleast 15 years. It must have taken him a long time to collect this many pennies from change so homefully I will find some good keepers for my roll set. It may be a while before I have time to go through all of them but I'll keep you updated.

Yeah I actually collect old bottles too and haven't seen one like this. I guess it's from the 70's maybe.

Wow thats a good amount of coins! I got one cookie tin of grandmas pennies and spent a month on it. I kept asking myself " are these 1960's cents in better condition than anything circulating now?"
Well, they are still sitting on my floor under my desk and I started contemplating that question last fall. It was a collection from someone in my family and I'll probably always keep them :)

I have a number of pennies in old jars myself that I have been saving for many years. These were taken out of my pockets over the years and are really unsorted.
I also have a 55 gallon drum of unrolled copper pennies that is maybe a third full and waiting for my kids to have the pleasure of looking through and to find some treasures. I can rest comfortably knowing that my kids and grandkids will be thinking about me for a long time as a result of the gift that I have in store for them. They are already making noises about the work that I will be leaving them to handle. They're calling it my revenge. But I'm not a sadist. I always taught them to work for what they want and they will.
I wish that some of my grandparents or parents had done this for me. asyrp43 in a way I do envy you. Good luck on your project.
