Hello Ron, to the forum.

That is a very, very interesting looking coin - I don't think its Celtic but I do think its ancient, I've not had any luck searching so far but will let you know if I do.

Interesting coin!
Just guesses here, but the knobs on the head might identify the figure as Pan.
I haven't found a match yet...

If it's Pan, my guess would be a Roman Republic, Roman provincial, or Greek coin.
So far, I have not found a match. If I do, I'll let you know

Unless someone here has this specific coin, it's going to take some time to ID.
It's a matter of randomly finding a match. I look at hundreds of coins each day, but so far no match.

Wow...I would have never guessed this is from the Nederlands.
It explains why I couldn't find a match. Still, old coin!

It had me completely stumped - thanks for letting us know what it was gider. I thought it looked a few centuries older than it is and would not have guessed at it being Dutch!

I think all coins that far back where done with a handheld die and a mallet by a low level grunt who just wanted to fill his quota and get home to his family. All old coins are off center a lot compared to coinage since the Industrial Revolution.

To be pedantic (and so future searches can find this thread better), it's a silver denar from the County of Holland, during the reign of Floris IV. Example for sale on ma-shops.
